Moments with Cassandra and Jenni, Creators of Pilates People

"Wherever you are. However you are." We are big fans of Pilates People since we are always on-the-go and like their philosophy! We wanted to get to know the creators of Pilates People a little more to help us when thinking about our own daily routines.

1. What's your daily routine?
I wake up somewhere between 6:30am and 8am depending on when my first session of the day is. I feed Cat (my Cat), make coffee, eat breakfast and listen to the news. That's every morning. If I don't have an early morning session, I'll do dishes or catch up on computer work and from there, each day is different depending on my class/private/meeting schedule but it generally consists of a few hours of teaching with 2-3 workouts for me (either teaching classes or teaching classes and a run) and I'm typically done around 7pm although I occasionally teach a late night private around 9 or 10pm. And throughout the day, I'm listening to "My Favorite Murder" as I'm running around and doing things. Karen and Georgia are almost always in my ears haha. At night, I make dinner, kick back with a glass of wine or a cup of tea and try to get to bed by 11pm, which usually means I'm actually in bed by 12am.

2. What's your favorite healthy habit?
Eating a cookie once a day, haha.

3. What inspired you to start Pilates PPL?
Honestly, the pandemic and the way the world was shifting. I was personally in a pretty sticky situation and needed to find a solution quick. What I didn't realize is how many people were in need of a consistent movement practice with a community of people they could count on to be there for them. It's been a really incredible ride so far and I'm so excited to see where we can go!

4. Favorite workout that's not your own?
I started running just over a year ago, and I have to say, I LOVE it...which is so not anything I expected to ever say. Before I was a runner, or even a Pilates instructor, I was a dancer and running was nowhere near my list of activities. But truly...love it now.

5. Biggest challenge you've faced in work or life?
Like everyone, I've had a lot of challenges, but I think when you boil them down to their core the underlying theme is underestimation - both from other people and myself. I think the challenge of my life is valuing myself - my contributions, my capabilities and my strength - beyond a shadow of a doubt, because if I can do that, it won't really matter who thinks what about me or what they try to impose on me. I'll be able to hold my head high, stand up for myself, advocate for what I believe in and do what I need to do.

6. What inspires you?
I thrive off of the people in my life. Watching them on their own journeys and finding ways to support them is what keeps me going. They're what motivates me to wake up, stand up and show up every day and I'm so incredibly thankful for everyone in my circle.

7. What's your spirit animal and why?
I had to consult with Jenni on this one, but we agreed that I'm an animal that does the thing it's not supposed to be able to do...so we landed at flying squirrel! Haha

going to the beach with a good book or going on a LONG run.

1. What's your daily routine?
I wake up early and always make myself an almond milk cappuccino before I do anything else. Then I start teaching virtual private sessions or filming recorded classes for Pilates People. When I finish teaching in the afternoon I choose some sort of movement practice to do, depending on my mood. It’s usually a long walk, a run, or a pilates class. In the evenings I  have a glass of wine and listen to podcasts while I cook dinner. Then I usually ignore a tv show while I make drawings, plan my pilates sessions for the next day or work with my husband on design elements for Pilates People.

2. What's your favorite healthy habit?
Movement! Movement balances my mind and recharges me.

3. What inspired you to start Pilates PPL?
The idea of having an online Pilates platform was entirely inspired by the shut down of NYC in March. I spent one day in a haze, wondering “what now?” and then I started receiving texts from my lovely Pilates clients asking if we could do virtual private sessions. So I snapped out of it and within a few days I had a very busy schedule. A few months later I joined forces with my dear friend and colleague Cassandra, who had been running classes as Pilates People since the shut down. It has been such a blast building something we truly believe in together!

4. Favorite workout that's not your own?
The best thing about working in the fitness industry is knowing so many amazing movement professionals! I love taking class from all my brilliant friends and learning from them.

5. Biggest challenge you've faced in work or life?
Integrating the various sides of myself! As an artist I always felt like a bit of an outsider in the fitness industry (even after 11 years as a pilates instructor and instructor educator lol). But I’m learning it’s possible to use my unique perspectives as a way to strengthen all of those elements of my identity.

6. What inspires you?
Beautiful surroundings, smart people, and art.

7. What's your spirit animal and why?
Well, Cassandra would say I’m Marcel The Shell (is that an animal?), but if you want a “real” animal I’ll say a cat. Working from home has really brought out my inner feline. I can often be found literally lounging on my sunny window sills.

long walks around New York City! There’s always something new and beautiful to see.
