We are big fans of healthy glowing skin, and can't wait to introduce you to Rachel Liverman, co-founder of the recently opened Glowbar in Manhattan. We had a chance to try out their 30-minute facial and have to say, we're obsessed. The aestheticians are patient, and each session is personalized for your specific skin care concerns. Their efficient nature appeals to our sense of efficiency and we love the various ways they can tailor a treatment. The family story behind the brand (their skin care expertise goes back 3 generations!) and we can't wait to go back.
What's your daily routine?
Check texts. Check email. Check instagram. Respond to instagram. Give my dog kisses. Wash face. Brush teeth while serum is absorbing. Moisturize. SPF. Tinted moisturizer. Mascara. Make three eggs. Eat too quickly :( Head to Glowbar!
What's your favorite healthy habit?
Therapy. It is my version of self-care and makes a positive impact on all areas of my life. The healthier my head, the better person I am!
What inspired you to open Glowbar?
It's really two-fold. First, it is my legacy. My grandmother opened the first accredited esthetics school in the country in 1977 and was a true pioneer in skincare. My mom now runs the business and as a third-generation esthetician, it felt like I was the right person to reinvent the professional skincare experience. Secondly, I also didn't take care of my skin with an esthetician consistently. So, like any other crazy person, I decided to create it!
Favorite workout?
Running to Minetta Tavern. Just kidding, I really do love spinning. I used to be a soulcycle fanatic and now I'm into Peloton since it's in my building which makes it so easy.
Biggest challenge you've faced in work or life?
ME! I have been my biggest challenge in work and/or life. Our minds are SO powerful and when I was younger I found that my own brain (read: lack of confidence, negative self-talk, imposter syndrome, insecurities) really held me back. With therapy and a focus on mindfulness, meditation, and gratitude (the five minute journal deserves an award!) I have been able to overcome the majority of these things and I truly think that is what allowed me to start my dream, Glowbar.
What inspires you?
People, people, people. I am inspired and energized by people. I love meeting new people and having them inspire me to be better in all areas of my life. I moved to NYC because I wanted to be around people who inspired me and it has done just that and more.
What's your spirit animal and why?
I have never thought about this before. But I just asked my best friend and she said i was a bear cub and would explain another time. Maybe because I'm adorable and cute and fuzzy but also kind of a bad ass? I'd like to think so. Stay tuned!
#myrecess is 30 minutes at Glowbar. HAD TO!
