Meet Meghan Cooney, owner of The Bar Method Livermore + The Bold Bouncer. It's inspiring to meet someone this motivated! Not only is she the owner, but she teaches classes too! We were interested to find out more about her routine. You can also find RECESS at The Bar Method Livermore!
What's your daily routine? As a small business owner, my daily routine varies wildly, which I enjoy! Keeps me on my toes. My "ideal" week day routine is to wake up around 6am for a workout. I rotate among barre, running, and rebounding. Then I drive to the studio, teach classes, and get work done! To wrap up the day, I will take care of my many plants or read a book while I sip on some wine, then eat dinner and watch a little TV with my husband. I try to read a bit before bed and get to sleep before 10, so I am energized for the next day!
What's your favorite healthy habit? My favorite healthy habit is exercise - always has been! I was a collegiate athlete, so working out has been a part of my daily life for as long as I can remember. I feel so much more energized and like myself when I get my sweat on. I exercise to stay fit and healthy, but I also do it simply because I love it and it makes me feel good!
What is it about the Bar Method that you like? and what brought you to open your own studio? What I love most about Bar Method is how the workout builds strength, endurance, and flexibility in a safe yet effective way. I've done a variety of hard workouts my entire life. After college, my body was craving something that worked, but also felt good. Cue: The Bar Method! In a Bar Method class, your muscles will burn and shake, and you'll break a sweat. It's hard. But you're also building up your joints and all the muscles that support them (as well as your core strength and posture). In other words, you don't have to break your body down in order to build it up, and that's what Bar Method taught me. I wanted to bring that experience to more people, so I decided to open a studio myself! I never thought I'd be a business owner; it's a lot of work and stress. But it's so worth it when you're living your passion!
Biggest challenge you've faced in work or life? The biggest challenge I've faced in life is when I stopped playing volleyball competitively. I had defined myself as a scholar athlete for so long, that once I was done playing on a team, I felt lost. I started running to clear my head, and I explored the areas around campus with friends whenever I could escape my school work. My parents, who are my best friends, also helped me understand that volleyball did not define me, and that I would find other things I am passionate about. In terms of my business, being shut down for almost a year due to COVID-19 restrictions was obviously a huge blow and a very stressful time. Thankfully, I have an amazingly loyal and kind staff and membership base. Their support literally is the reason we survived, and I will forever be grateful. In both situations, I was blessed with an incredible support system to lean on during my toughest times!
What inspires you? Helping people build confidence and strength inspires me. As an instructor, I get to witness the transformation of our members from when they first walk in, unsure of what they're getting into, to when they're crushing 30 push-ups on their toes. It's an honor to be a part of that transformation!
What's your RECESS #myrecess is taking a Bar Method class! It never fails to make me feel centered, empowered, and strong!
